I'm actually looking for information on a place I know nothing about, but have been advised to look into. It is Castleinch, Ovens County Cork. I would appreciate it if someone could give me an idea of what it refers to. I'm at mominch@tiac.net. Thank you very much.

My Great-great Grandmother emigrated from Skibbereen to Australia during the famine in 1850's. Her name was Janet O'Leary. She was about 17yrs old at the time. From what my mother tells me she left Ireland with her two younger brothers who were put on the wrong ship, and went to America. Janet was 'pressured' to change her name in Australia by the English dominance in this country at the time. She dropped the O and became Janet Leary.

I had the good fortune to visit Skibbereen during Summer of '96 and the beautiful countryside of Cork. I wish I had had more time to explore my history. Is there a local reference source I could write to to gain more details of the O'Leary family? I noticed the jewellers in the main street were O'Learys, but didn't think it appropriate to tackle them on the off chance. Would love to hear from someone who may be able to offer information.

I worked with several fascinating people from Cork this past summer in Wildwood, NJ among them but not completely inclusive were Niamh Long and Kim O'Mahony. Such pleasant girls. Because of them, I am currently planning a trip to visit Cork within the next couple of weeks. I am glad they had the desire to see my country as their zest for life has now infected me and I now wish to visit a country that I previously only thought of as only a place where my forefathers originated. Thank you. -- Chuck Dickinson

Hi, Your site is great...I'm going to be in Cork and Kerry in November...A few months back I finished reading a translation of Canon O'Leary's "My Story". In an appendix in the back, the translator mentioned that in Ballyvourney, there is still a "Court of Poetry" in existence. I was wondering if I could get more information on that or contact anyone associated with it. If they meet while I'm in Cork, I'd really like to be able to sit in...I'd read about the Courts of Poetry in Daniel Corkery's, "The Hidden Ireland", and I've always wanted to see one. Thanks, John Hurley Caravat@aol.com
