Shanagarry, meaning Old Garden, is the birthplace of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania State. Shanagarry has clean sandy beaches locally at Ardnahinch and a short drive to Garryvoe which are ideal for swimming, angling and a paradise for birdwatchers.
In the village is the outlet shop and cafe of renowned potter, Stephen Pearce. Visitors to Shanagarry can also enjoy a day out at the Kilkenny Shop and take a relaxing break in the cafe afterwards.
Shanagarry is now also well known for Ballymaloe House and Darina Allen's Cookery School and Gardens.
