Shanagarry, meaning Old Garden, is the birthplace of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania State. Shanagarry has clean sandy beaches locally at Ardnahinch and a short drive to Garryvoe which are ideal for swimming, angling and a paradise for birdwatchers.
In the village is the outlet shop and cafe of renowned potter, Stephen Pearce.
Shanagarry is now also well known for Ballymaloe House and Darina Allen's Cookery School and Gardens. Visitors to Shanagarry can also enjoy a day out at the Kilkenny Shop and take a relaxing break in the cafe afterwards.
